What does Make-up air mean ?
Make-up air ist he outside airvolume portion of an airhandler ,for the calculations we do not consider the recirculating air.

What does latent heat recovery mean ?
Latent heat recovery ist he moisture recovery from an enthalpy wheel. For accurate values please get in touch with your contractor or your AHU manufacturer/supplier.
We will consider this value in the energy consumptions not in the load calculations.

Why does he have Gas/steam in the 9th box ?
This calculator can both be used for gas fired humidifiers (GTS) as you can run it for Steam to Steam applications (STS) or even Steam injection (SI).
If you choose the latter one than you will have to fill in the steam cost in eurocents/Kwh in the Gas/Steam box.
In all later calculations you will have to consider gas/steam as steam.

What does Week-end operation mean ?
If you run your HVAC installation during the week-ends (7 days a week) than please thick this box.
In all other cases the calculator will consider Hvac operation 5 days out of seven.

What does condensate losses mean ?
Every dispersion system will produce condensate due to the cooling effect of cold air(typical 10°-30°) over a hot tube which has a superficial temperature just below 100°C.
The condensates have to be considered in the humidifier selection and the yearly energyconsumptions.

Why do we have to fill in drain ?
Drain hot water is also an energy loss fort he total system, reason why we include this value in the yearly energy consumptions.
It will not influence the humidifier selection but can cause interruptions in your steamproduction (killing the boil)

What do you use the value waterhardness for ?
This value will give us the possibility to calculate the lime scale production over a year. The harder the water the more lime scale will be produced.

What is the effect of the supply air temperature ?
With this parameter we can calculate the overlap of cooling and humidification over one year.
If this happens than extra heat added by the dispersion system will have to be considered in the High Efficiency tube calculation program.

What is the purpose of the city selection drop down box?
The climate date over europe differ from place to place. Our calculator uses hourly weather data for the cities listed in the drop down menu.
Some places are colder (North of Europe) and require more humidification than the places in the south of Europe.
Please select a city which corresponds mostly with your application.
Following countries are listed : London, Zurich, Brussels,Vlissingen, Kopenhagen and Stuttgart.

Why is there a difference between the load and the humidifier capacity ?
The load ios the actual amount of steam in order to maintain design conditions (theoretical).
Humidifier capacity ist he load incl the losses for draining and condensation.

What does ROI mean ?
Return on Investment,we will only use the capital cost of the unit to calculate the ROI.
In order to obtain an ROI which meet your application please consult your supplier/contractor for addtionnal costs on shipping, installation and commissioning.

Steam Production: Yearly steam production based on load + losses.
Losses include drain and condensate losses

Yearly energy consumption in Kw: Energy used to produce the steam required to maintain design condition incl.
Drain and condensate losses.

Steam production: only used for STS humidfiers.
Primary steam neccessary to produce the humidifer load

Operating hours: The total number of hours the humidifier will have to produce steam.
From 1% demand till 100 %

Full Capacity Operating hours: Converting the yearly steam production in number of hours for the humidifier running at 100 % (full capacity) or : yearly steam production / max humidifier load.

Lime scale production:
Based on thge operating hours and the hardness of the water, we calculate the lime scale production not including the effects of draining and skimming.

3. High Efficiency tube calculator

Number of tubes:
Please consult your supplier in order to get the exact number of tubes which make up your dispersion system.

Air velocity:
Velocity of the air passing the tubes ,if tubes are spaced closely please consider increase in velocity.

Active tube length:
Active area of insulation.Consult supplier in order to get this value right.

Tube diameter:
We have two different dispersion tube diameters : 40 mm and 50 mm.

Condensation production:
In order to calculate the cost of the condensate waste we need to know the source used to generate steam.Sources considered : Electric and Steam (STS,SI) or Gas.

COP: Coefficient of Performance:
This amounts the number of cooling Kw produced for each Kw electricity absorbed by the compressor, fans of a chillerplant.
We use this value to calculate the cost of a temperature increase due to heat losses from the dispersion tubes .

Condensate waste:
The cost of condensate incl the cost for water, treatments, and cost for dumping the condensate.
